Therapy-forward psychiatry for people whose lives look fine on the outside but feel unbearable inside.
I help LGBTQ+ adults, high achievers quietly unraveling at 2 a.m., and people carrying trauma, depression or suicidality that won’t let go.
You don’t have to keep performing, pretending, or settling for a life that hurts this much.
Through relationship-based care, deep therapy (IFS and EMDR) , thoughtful medication strategy and integrative work that looks at what's actually happening under the hood, I help you move from “tolerable misery” to real relief. With one honest, unhurried step at a time.
Specialities:
LGBTQ+ affirming psychiatric care, with attention to minority stress, identity development, and mental health across the lifespan
Gender-diverse and transgender care, including pre-surgical psychiatric evaluations and affirming support before, during, and after transition
Trauma and PTSD (single-incident, complex, religious, relational) using EMDR and Internal Family Systems approaches
Schizophrenia and psychotic disorders approached with relational safety, curiosity, and compassion
Depression, burnout, and suicidality in high-achieving adults who want depth over quick med checks
Families with highly intelligent children struggling with emotional regulation
Hi, I’m Carter Doyle, PMHNP-BC
I spent over a decade in emergency medicine, paramedic, ER nurse, and educator. This is where I learned to stay calm when everything is exploding, assess risk clearly, and make decisions that matter right now.
I also know what it's like to feel hopeless, to question whether life is worth continuing, to navigate shame and identity and spaces that try to erase parts of who I am.
That experience, my own treatment-resistant depression cycles, and the aftermath of religiously motivated conversion therapy taught me that real healing isn't about forcing change. It's about creating enough safety to be curious about what's inside, to meet every part of yourself with compassion instead of person, and to take small, intentional steps toward feeling whole again.
That is why I practice therapy-forward psychiatry. Medication is one tool. The relationship is the foundation. And I won't settle for tolerable misery anymore than I want you to.
Do you…
Do you look like you have it together, but at 2am you’re staring at the ceiling wondering how much longer you can keep this up?
People know you because you perform. Your grades, your career, and your ability to hold it together, but no one sees how hollow, hopeless or quietly desperate you feel underneath?
Do you find yourself asking questions you never planned to ask, that feel impossible to name out loud, or whether it even makes sense to keep trying?
You don’t need another quick appointment. You need someone who can sit with you in the grey areas without flinching. Someone who won’t panic when things feel out of control and who doesn’t outsource your care.
Someone who doesn’t settle for “good enough”.
I work with people who are insightful, ready to go inside, and willing to explore what healing could actually look like.

How We Help
Leaf Psychiatry is built on one truth:
Real change requires time, relationship, and a willingness to look at the whole picture - not just the symptoms.
Treatment Modalities
Therapy-Forward Psychiatry
Psychotherapy and medication in the same room, with enough time to actually know you. This allows us to treat symptoms while also addressing the deeper patterns, beliefs, and inner conflicts that keep you stuck.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
We all have an inner world of parts shaped by joy, pain, success, and survival. IFS helps us meet those parts with curiosity and compassion so you no longer have to be at war with yourselfEMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)
Traumatic memories can feel like they're still happening. EMDR helps the brain reclassify them as past events, reducing the emotional charge and reactivity that keep you trappedAcceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Clarifies what truly matters to you and helps you move toward those values, even when painful thoughts or emotions show up. You do not have to feel perfect to live a meaningful life.Thoughtful Medication Strategy
Precision-based, collaborative medication management focused on restoring natural balance. I use serum level, labs, and careful titration, not trail-and-error or “just wait and see”.Integrative & Lifestyle-Informed Care
Attention to sleep, stress, movement, and daily rhythms that directly impact mood and resilience. Small changes here often create meaningful momentum.Nutrition & Nutraceutical Support
Mental Health is still body health. Targeted nutrition and supplements (e.g., methylfolate, balanced omega-3s) can support brain function when used thoughtfully.Pharmacogenomic Testing
When helpful, genetic testing can guide, more effective medication choices and reduce trial-and-error.In-Office Lab Work
I draw bloodwork myself to eliminate barriers and better understand medication levels, micronutrients, and other biological markers.Affirming LGBTQ+ and Gender-Diverse Care
Specialized, non-coercive support for navigating identity, family, faith, shame, and medical transitions in a space where you are fully seen and never not required to defend who you are.
Each of these tools is chosen with intention. The goal is not tolerable misery. The goal is relief, clarity, and freedom to live your life with peace and meaning.
